Audio Upload 22: Monologue voice dubbing

For this I chose Wheatley’s final boss monologue from portal 2
Here is the original clip.
the game itself has subtitles if you want to read along, but I’ll leave the script here
(disclaimer: Only Wheatley is dubbed)
•GLaDOS: You like revenge, right? Everybody likes revenge. Well, let’s go get some.
•Wheatley: Well, well, well. Welcome to MY LAIR! Lemme just flag something up: According to the control panel light up there, the entire building’s going to self destruct in about six minutes. Pretty sure it’s a problem with the light. I think the light’s on the blink. But just in case it isn’t. I actually gonna have to kill you. As discussed earlier.
So, let’s call that three minutes, and then a minute break, which should leave a leisurely two minutes to figure out how to shut down whatever’s starting all these fires. So anyway, that’s the itinerary.
Also, I took the liberty of watching the tapes of you killing her, and I’m not gonna make the same mistakes. Four part plan is this: One: No portal surfaces. Two: Start the neurotoxin immediately.
Three: Bomb.proof shields for me. Leading directly into number Four: Bombs. For throwing at you.
You know what, this plan is so good, I’m gonna give you a sporting chance and turn off the neurotoxin. I’m Joking. Of course. Goodbye.
System: Neurotoxin level at capacity in five minutes.

And this is my dub:

It took MANY takes, and it could have been better… but I tried my best (also around 0:36 the subtitles say “going to” but the audio is “gonna”, that tripped me up many times while dubbing)

I hope you like it, but for now…
Farewell
Until the next time the stars align.

Audio upload 17 “What are your true colors

This time im reading the article “what are your true colors?” from VOA learning english

Here´s the article.
——————————————————————————————————————–

And now, Words and Their Stories, from VOA Learning English.

On today’s show, we talk about colors.

Sometimes we talk about our feelings with words describing colors. For example, if I am feeling down or a bit sad, I can say I am “blue.” If I’m angry, I might say that I see “red.” If I’m out of sorts or really unhappy, I can say I’m in a “black” mood. If I want something that someone else has, I can say I’m “green” with envy.

All these different feelings can be represented with colors. But what about your “true colors?” What does it mean to show your true colors?

If we show our “true colors,” we are true to ourselves. We show what we are really like. We reveal our true nature, character, or personality.

For example, I have a friend who loves the sun and sea. When she is at the beach, she shows her “true colors.” She’s very active — swimming in the sea, walking along the beach, and enjoying other outdoor activities. When she is away from the beach, she doesn’t seem herself. She is often inside and not very active.

However, showing one’s true colors does not always mean something good. Some people may present themselves in a way other than how they really are. They might seem to have positive characteristics. They act kind, pleasant, generous, or helpful. But in fact, they are really the opposite. They are not showing their “true colors.” They keep their “true nature” hidden.

Let’s listen to this example:

A: You know, I thought Mack was easygoing. But then I worked with him on a big project.

B: I know exactly what you mean. He’s easygoing and fun to work with when he gets his way. But if you question any of his ideas, he shows his true colors.

A: That is exactly what happened! I suggested an alternative to his idea, and he became really rude … and mean.

Some word experts say the expression “true colors” dates back to the 1700s and comes from the world of sailing ships. Colored flags were, and still are, used to show what country a ship was registered to and to communicate with other ships at a distance. The ship’s colors were its flags.

Pirates’ ships would sail under “false colors,” meaning under a friendly flag. They would do this to get close to other ships without raising concern. Then, when the pirates were close enough and ready to attack, they would raise their “true colors.”

Another expression with a similar meaning is to show your stripes. Stripes can be your true nature and something you cannot hide or remove. However, this expression is less common.

Here is an example:

Marisa showed her true stripes when her back was against the wall. When she had no way out of the problems that she had created, she blamed everyone … everyone but herself, that is.

And that’s this week’s Words and Their Stories. Until next time…

I’m Tomás Agurto.

and now from this blog post…

Audio Upload 16: (not so)Breaking News!!

Hi readers
For this audio upload I had to read 3 news articles from a page.
Let us begin.

1- Rats look for people

Trainers from Belgian company APOPO are training rats to search for people in disaster zones.

Rats are very curious and they like to explore, so people train them just like dogs. They are very small, so they can easily move through debris. Also, they have very good smell to find things.

The animals wear a small backpack with special technology. A video camera and a device helps rescuers communicate with survivors.

Currently people train the rats in a simulated disaster zone. When the rat finds the person in an empty room, it pulls a switch on their vest. This sends a signal to rescuers that someone is in the debris. Then, the rat returns to the rescuers, and they reward the animal.

2- Scientist find many new species

Biologists in New Zealand found about 100 new species deep in the sea. There were many unidentified ones and a creature called a ‘sea-pig’.

Scientists hoped to discover species before they disappeared forever. They found many creatures, like large sea cucumbers and unique sea cucumbers with leg-like parts. With the help of cameras, they saw known species at big depths. They also found new types of octopus and coral and some unknown creatures.

The area didn’t seem too interesting for scientists but now, they recognize it as rich and want to explore it more.

3- Car park is a farm

Noah Verin was a chef in Sydney, Australia, but in 2020, he started an unusual business.

Verin’s company is called Urban Green, and the man grows herbs and microgreens in a car park in the center of Sydney. Currently, he grows 40 different plants, and he uses lights and fans to keep the air fresh.

Verin wants his business to be carbon neutral by 2026. He already cut down the energy use by 50%, and now, he is replacing plastic packages with other materials. He also uses natural medium to grow his plants.

Verin delivers his products to local restaurants, and they are very satisfied with the quality. The plants don’t travel from far away, and they come in the pots and not cut, so they are very fresh.

That’s all of them

Let me know if I mispronounced anything, Im still learning after all.

Farewell
until the next time the stars align

My Goals, Challenges and Expectations for Lenguage 3

Greetings Reader
Now that me and my classmates came back from summer vacation, it’s time to see what the new year has in store for all of us.

I personally don’t have any specific goals in mind, just improving my grasp on the English lenguage.
I didn’t really improve in my ability to do homework on time, so getting better at that may be another goal.

Now what do I expect for this year…
New content? Absolutely. I also expect to polish my skills and knowledge from last year.

With all of that said, I thought of another “goal” that will be “challenging” but I “expect” to archieve.
Beyond all that knowledge and skills, I need to better myself as a person. Looking back… I feel like im on the right track.
What other challenges will I find this year? I have no idea, but I’ll face them with determination.

Farewell.
Until the next time the stars align.

Flatmates Reloaded Ep132 (audio upload 14)

Sadly… This is the last one.
I had so much fun recording these…
The last episode is: Childhood Traumas

Episode 132: Childhood traumas
Dentist:Now the receptionist told me you’re a bit frightened of dentists. Is that right?
Khalid:Yes I’m terrified actually.
Dentist:Well I hope I can change your mind about me! So first of all, let me ask you a few questions about your dental history.
Khalid:OK, if you think it will help.
Dentist:I’m sure it will. Now can you remember your first visit to the dentist?
Khalid:Yes, I was only young but I had to have a … a filling.
Dentist:And why was that?
Khalid:I ate lots of sweets when I was a boy. You see, I’ve always loved sugary things.
Dentist:Go on.
Khalid:But the dentist didn’t explain anything. He switched on the drill and when that horrible noise started, I just started screaming!

Dentist: I don’t blame you. The old equipment was really loud.

Khalid: And they had to hold me to the chair since I could not stand still.

Dentist: Oh!, I see…

Khalid: Not to mention the awful feeling of those pieces of cotton in your mouth

Dentist: Those are there to absorb the excess of saliva

Khalid: Then my tongue got hurt because of my movements

Dentist: Well… knowing those old drills, I’m sure it wasn’t a pretty sight

Khalid: To this day, I still have nightmares of that visit.

now to the audios

A-side. Starring me as the dentist and Jose as Khalid

here’s the script (the dash-line marks the en of the original and start of the extension)

Episode 123: Painting and decorating
-Helen’s Dad:The shelves look great Khalid.
-Khalid:Thank you. I enjoy working with my hands. I miss doing practical things like this when I’m studying all the time.
-Dad:Well I have an idea which might suit us both.
-Khalid:Really, what’s that?
-Dad:I hear you’re not going back home over the holidays.
-Khalid: Er, yes. It’s too expensive and my family doesn’t celebrate Christmas in Bahrain anyway.
-Dad:Well, I was planning on doing some redecorating on one of my other flats while my tenants were away for Christmas.
-Khalid:Oh yes?
-Dad:I could really use another pair of hands. Of course,I wouldn’t expect you to work for free. What do -you think?
———————————————————————————

-Khalid:Of course! But may I ask… How much will you pay me?
-Dad:About fifty pounds for the whole thing.
-Khalid:Fifty pounds!?
-Dad:Do you want more?
-Khalid:No, no… It’s actually more than enough
-Dad:Then it is settled, can we start next Friday?
-Khalid:Yes, no problem for me

(audio upload 12) Flatmates episode 116 RELOADED

This is the first flatmates reloaded of my uploads
this mean that me and my teammate extended the dialogue of the episode.

here’s the original script

Episode 116: Khalid’s DIY
Tim:What’s all that banging about?
Khalid:Oh I didn’t realise you were in. I thought I had the flat to myself. Do you like the new shelves?
Tim:You can’t just decide to start hammering things into walls. You need to get permission first. Have you checked with the landlord?
Khalid:Of course I have. Calm down Tim. I got his number from Helen, gave him a call and he gave me the thumb up.
Tim:Oh OK. Well in that case. Can I give you a hand?
Khalid:Sure, I need to checking if this one is straight.
Tim:Well, let me just put these books on it here and see if…
Khalid:No, wait, wait!
Tim:Sorry, was I a bit too quick?

And here is the extension..

Khalid: Why did you think putting books on an unfinished shelf would be a good idea!?
Tim: I just wanted to check it’s straightness. You know… To see if they would slide off.
Khalid: The books are too heavy. Why not use the level I´ve left on the table?
Tim: I… I didn’t see it.
Khalid: Now, because of your carelessness, there’s a hole on the wall.
Tim: Can we cover it with a painting?
Khalid: Or… We can own up to our mistake and talk to the landlord. I’m sure he will understand and help
us fix it
Tim: Good idea! I just hope he doesn’t get mad.

give it a listen

A side starring Me as Khalid and Jose as Tim
B side starring Jose as Khalid and Me as Tim

that is all…. kinda

Farewell
Until the next time the stars align.

(Audio upload 11) The Flatmates episode 109

This time I worked with Javiera Farias

here’s the script

Episode 109: A visit to the vet
Vet:And is Kitty an indoor or an outdoor cat?
Khalid:Both really. She stays in at night but she’s out most off the day, playing with other cats.
Vet:Right, walk along here Kitty. Now, mm, you see? She’s limping. Let’s have another look at that front paw. Ah yes, see here – there’s some swelling.
Khalid:What happen?
Vet:I’m not sure exactly but it’s likely she was in a fight, probably with another cat, or maybe she just stood on something sharp, like a piece of glass.
Khalid:Will she be alright?
Vet:Oh yes. You just need to give her these antibiotics – twice a day for the next five days.
Khalid:Thanks very much.
Vet:Ah, it’s a pleasure. Bye Kitty!
A-side starring Me as Khalid and Javi as The Vet
B-side starring Javi as Khalid and Me as The Vet

Flatmates episode 93 (audio upload 10)

Here we have episode 93: “an old friend calls”
here’s the script

Episode 93: An old friend calls
Tim:Hello?
Janet:It’s Janet Hall here.
Tim:Janet! How did you get my number?
Janet:Oh, a bit of detective work and a chat with a lovely gal in the Human Resources department.
Tim:Well, I’m glad you called. I’ve got so much to thank you for. I was branded a cheat, a liar and a thief, but because of you I’m beginning to clear my name.
Janet:It was nothing, honestly. The truth will out, as they say. But all’s not quite well with you yet. I hear you got the boot.
Tim:No, I quit. It was a matter of principle. But you’re right – quit, fired – it comes to the same thing. No job, no money, no prospects.
Janet:And you think I’d stand for that?
A side with Nico as Tim and me as Janet.
B side with me as Tim and Nico as Janet.

We used a different recording method this time (that explains the echo)
And that’s it.
Farewell
